The situation in Ukraine remains very bad, the EU countries will continue to provide it with military assistance, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said before an informal meeting of the union's defense ministers.
Officials will continue to discuss the situation in Ukraine, which is not getting better, he said. Ukrainian Minister of Defense Oleksiy Reznikov will take part in the meeting.
“The situation remains very bad. Ukraine needs our help, and we will continue to provide it in the form of military funds, the ministers will also discuss the idea of creating a high-level mission to train the Ukrainian army, — said Borrell.
According to him, since today's meeting is informal, no practical decisions on the mission will be made. “Possibly a political agreement, which I hope we should get today. Details will appear later. There is a procedure during which goals, resources are determined, & mdash; he explained. Earlier, Borrell said that the training mission of the Ukrainian military would not be deployed on the territory of Ukraine.
Borrell added that another topic will be defense procurement by the EU countries themselves, since they have depleted their defense stocks.
“We will discuss how to make a push in the European defense industry, how to encourage European countries to do more defense purchases, since we have depleted our reserves, we have provided so many opportunities for Ukraine that we now need to replenish our own reserves, — he added.

The last time the EU agreed on a tranche of assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €500 million was in mid-July. The total cost of assistance under the European Peace Fund (EPF) reached €2.5 billion.
