A group of IAEA experts went to the Zaporozhye NPP, the head of the international agency Rafael Grossi said on Twitter.
“The day has come. The IAEA support and assistance mission is on its way to the Zaporozhye NPP,— he wrote.
The mission is led by Grossi himself. They will arrive on site “later this week”.
The fact that a mission of 13 experts led by the organization's CEO should arrive at the power plant this week was previously reported by The New York Times. According to the publication, the nuclear power plant should be visited by specialists “mainly from neutral countries”: Poland, Lithuania, China, Serbia, Albania, France, Italy, Jordan, Mexico and North Macedonia. There are no representatives of the USA and Great Britain in the delegation, the newspaper noted. Grossi on Twitter does not specify which states his counterparts represent.
The Wall Street Journal reported that agency staff can bring spare parts, radiation monitoring equipment and other equipment to the station.

The city of Energodar and the Zaporozhye NPP located there have been under the control of Russian troops since the end of February. During the summer, Russia and Ukraine repeatedly accused each other of shelling a nuclear power plant and endangering nuclear safety.
On August 27, the Permanent Mission of Russia to the UN announced that it had sent to the countries— a letter to the members of the Security Council of the organization with evidence of the shelling of the ZNPP by the Ukrainian military. According to the Ministry of Defense, shelling has been taking place since July 18— the latest of these was reported by the agency on 28 August. On the same day, the military-civilian administration of Energodar spoke about the UAF kamikaze drone shot down over the nuclear power plant.
The Ukrainian side demands that the Russian military leave the power plant. The Foreign Ministers of the G7 countries (Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, the USA, France and Japan) made the same call: in their opinion, Russia's actions “endanger the population of Ukraine, neighboring countries and the entire world community.” Moscow declares that it does not use the nuclear power plant for military purposes.
Both sides of the conflict spoke out in support of the presence of IAEA experts at the ZNPP, including on a permanent basis.
