President Vladimir Putin, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov watched the main stage of the Vostok-2022 exercise at the Sergeevsky training ground in Primorye, the Kremlin press service reported.
As part of the exercises, which began on September 1 and will end on September 7, “various options for action” were worked out; interspecific and coalition groupings of troops. The military trains at seven training grounds in the Far East— Burduny, Goryachiye Klyuchi, Knyaz-Volkonsky, Lagunnoye, Sergeevsky, Telemba, Uspenovsky, as well as in the waters and coastal zones of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.
In total, 50 thousand military personnel are involved in the exercises.
More than five thousand pieces of weapons and military equipment are involved in them, including 140 aircraft, 60 warships, boats and support vessels .
As noted in the Kremlin, military contingents and observers from the CSTO and SCO countries are participating in the development of joint actions. Represented at the exercises, including Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Syria, Tajikistan.

The exercises of the Ministry of Defense were announced at the end of July, after which Japan demanded to exclude the region of the “northern territories”, as Tokyo calls the South Kuriles, from the zone conducting planned military exercises. The Foreign Ministry then reminded the Japanese side that the islands are an integral part of Russia.
The US State Department said that the Vostok-2022 exercises take place on a routine basis and participating sovereign countries have the right to do so.
