Romania declares Russian diplomat persona non grata

The diplomat, whose name has not been released, was given a week to leave the country. In April, Romania and Russia mutually expelled ten employees of diplomatic missions

Romania announced the expulsion of one Russian diplomat, reportedly on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country.

By order of Minister Bogdan Aurescu, one of the employees of the embassy in Bucharest was declared persona non grata (his name was not reported). “This decision was made taking into account the incompatibility of the actions of the representative, in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961,” — The Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The exiled diplomat must leave Romania within a week.

This year, Romania has already expelled Russian diplomats: in early April, Bucharest declared ten members of the diplomatic mission persona non grata. In response, Moscow sent the same number of Romanian diplomats.

The day after that, an accident occurred at the Russian embassy in Bucharest. A car crashed into the fence that surrounds the building, which then caught fire. The driver died. As noted by the local portal News.ro, on the eve of the accident, a protest rally was held near the embassy due to the events in Ukraine.
