The Ministry of Health, after the news about the arrest of the chief freelance narcologist Yevgeny Bryun, announced that “the position of the chief freelance specialist of the ministry was excluded from the nomenclature.” Brune has held this position since 2009. On August 19, he was detained on suspicion of organizing a fraudulent scheme for the purchase of drug and alcohol tests at inflated prices.
“Yevgeny Bryun is not the main freelance specialist of the ministry today. The position of the chief freelance specialist of a psychiatrist-narcologist was previously excluded from the nomenclature of the main freelance specialists of the Ministry of Health in the process of its completion, — said the press service of the ministry.
The ministry promised to cooperate with the investigation.
The website of the Ministry of Health has a page listing all the main freelance specialists. At the time of publication, Brun's name was not listed. The page says it was last updated on August 19, 2022 at 5:47 pm. In the copy of the page dated August 11, preserved in the Wayback Machine, Brune is on the list.
According to a RBC source close to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 71-year-old Brune and vice-president of the Association of Narcologists Vladimir Yakushev are suspected of fraud with the purchase of diagnostic devices that are used to detect the presence of drugs or alcohol. Brun and Yakushev, the investigation believes, bought them at inflated prices and used companies associated with the latter's wife for this.
